A Sanctuary for Me

part15.jpg

Ok, it’s Shabbath again.

Lately, I’ve felt the need to create my own sanctuary when it comes to organizing the Shabbath candles before sunset. Everything has to look harmonious for me— the candle colors, the space composition surrounding them, the light, other colors, and most importantly, the energy of beauty created to receive my Shabbath. I organize the objects that have a larger meaning for me within that particular week or period in my life. I am the queen of objects, but not idolatry of course. Each object has its own energetic and emotional value.

Call it luck, but the people that I love shower me with small gifts, cards, incense and aromas so I feel appreciated, loved and enlightened.

My books tell the story of my present and past—and through desires—my future. Indian Design, Adoro, Shakti, Brazilian Beach Houses, Kabbalistic Healing, Coco Chanel at the Met, The Yoga Pack, and The Art of Happiness by the Dalai Lama are the ones that surround my candles at this right moment.

The Hebrew letters Shin, Alef, Hei, engraved in a small white Greek Thassos marble pebble represent the soul mate concept. The pebble was given to me in Israel when I went to visit the tomb of a famous Kabbalist known for joining soul mates around the world.

Wooden hands brought from Bali over than 20 years ago; a picture of me with my daughter and mother in my garden as a reminder of the three family generations; a vintage iron dragonfly necklace given to me by a New York friend who stopped using it because she suddenly got happy in her life;

the trendy Italian Alora Jasmine home scent wrapped with a blue-eyed golden bracelet to ward against misfortune and bad luck; a medallion of white ceramic Tara from Tibet to grant eternal youth brought to me here in New York from an Italian soul mate girlfriend of mine are just a few of the objects that are special to me.

Who knows, by the time I light the candles in this small but very personal sanctuary, the macrocosmic energy might capture the energy of my mini-micro universe and integrate it within hers…Does it make sense?

Ok, everything seems to be ready for my prayer… I must rush, just 22 minutes before sunset and two minutes left for candle lighting. Lace handkerchief on my head; matches; one deep breath; concentration; I must receive, two, one…

Light, light, light.

Chabbath Chalom to all.
