Christmas Windows in New York

part10.jpg

I am back to NY. I arrived in the middle of a bus and subway strike situation where, to go from one place to another you must either walk, or share a taxi with three other people at a ten dollar fee each. It’s 25 degrees Fahrenheit, chilly but sunny. Apart from the strike, Manhattan looks great as usual and breathes the holidays mood.

Department stores compete for the best looking Christmas window displays and like every year many tourists, children, and curious citizens make long lines to see this year’s themes. This is something I have never done… Wear my warmest boots, fur coat, hat, scarf, gloves, glasses, several layers under my coat, and here I go for a department stores window tour in the city.

Saks Fifth Avenue scenes are about friendship, love and harmony; Barney’s about royalty created by the famous and polemic Simon Doonan, companion of the potter artist Johnathan Adler; Bergdoff Goodman is about rhymes of traditional holidays and Christmas songs; Bloomingdales is showing fairytale themes; Macy’s features animated books revealing different New York holiday scenes.

I hope you’ll enjoy the tour, and happy holidays for everyone.
