2006 Carnaval Questions

part23.jpg

I know it is crazy; I am in NY during Carnival.

I cannot believe it is so absurdly cold. My friends in Brazil said good-bye to me last Thursday… ages ago; I wonder what they are doing? Nobody answers their phone. E-mails? Forget about it. Cell phones? Don’t even mention it, but where must they all be? “Jo, talk to you next week.” What do you guys mean by “next week”? What on Earth is so much more important than me being far away, needing love and to discuss issues? Very important stuff of course!!

“It’s ok baby, the world won’t fall if we don’t connect for few days, right?” Business is secondary too this week. But what could be more important than closing a deal? “Well ‘fofa’ (cutie) there are many details that need to be carefully analyzed and we cannot absolutely rush. I am sure you agree.”… Right.

Like an abandoned and needy orphan I look through the window of the 11th floor of my Central Park view and see a frozen lake.

After a deep sight I decide to light a candle on my aromatherapy burner in the shape of a female Buddha, breath deeply inhaling the aroma of exotic fruits until the aroma ascending through my brain makes me realize through meditation that time and distance are nothing more than illusion… Suddenly I can see all my friends in that far and distant land called Brazil dancing non-stop for three days and nights to the heart beat rhythms of their soul’s African music drums.

Rio, Salvador, Sao Paulo, Recife, Olinda, Parati, their dance is a prayer that whispers in my ears …”Life is just there to be enjoyed and appreciated. Go out and dance yourself in the snow if you wish, but just do it, and afterwards tell everybody how it feels.”

Four o clock in the morning. I called a nice sweet friend and went “folly” on Central Park for enough time to romantically warm myself afterwards, just as much as my Brazilian fellows would do.

Check how Brazilians and my friends like to celebrate Carnival. These pictures were selected by me and kindly provided by UOL on line.
